Glass for Construction Purposes

Fully glazed facades using the Structural Glazing principle have significantly influenced glass architecture since they were first launched on the German market in the mid-80s. They have given major impetus to facade design and to the use of glass in building in general.
| Application | | The term "structural glazing" (SG) stands for a method of assembly in facade construction in which glass is permanently affixed to the load-bearing structure (anodized aluminium or steel) exclusively by means of silicon adhesive. Static loads exerted on the exterior facade, such as wind loads, are transferred to the sub-frame by the structural sealant. |
| Approval | | Since the Structural Glazing method is not covered by building laws, SG systems require either "general building inspection approval" or approval for the specific buildings in question, the latter from the highest building supervision authority. The construction of SG systems approved by building authorities may only be undertaken by companies that comply with the technical and personnel requirements laid down in the approval regulations, that have installed an appropriate system of in-house and external supervision and are registered as an approved SG construction company with the DIBt (Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik, German Institute of Building Technology) in Berlin. Arnold Glas fulfils these conditions and is an officially approved producer of structural glazing units and structural glazing systems on sub-frames. |
